Michigan State gymnast Skyla Schulte wrapped up her freshman season on Thursday night, competing as an individual qualifier on beam at the NCAA Championship semifinals. Schulte earned a score of 9.9125 to finish tied for seventh overall and earn NCAA Second Team All-American honors.

For the second-straight week and the fourth time in her Spartan career, Michigan State gymnast Skyla Schulte was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, as well as Gymnast of the Week, by the Big Ten conference. The awards were announced Tuesday afternoon, with the Gymnast of the Week award ending in a three-way tie between Schulte, Michigan senior Natalie Wojcik, and Minnesota senior Ona Loper.

Michigan State gymnastics freshmen duo Skyla Schulte and Gabi Stephen have been selected as the 2022 Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch for the Spartans, the league announced Tuesday. “We are hungry to get back in the arena to pick up where we left off in 2021,” MSU head coach Mike Rowe commented. “It was unfortunate that we lost our 2021 season, but with that, we have grown in so many ways as a team; athletically, mentally, in the classroom, and as a family. The Big Ten gets more competitive each year and we have upped our game as well. We are so excited to be back in the hunt!”
