Michigan State’s Nick Powers has been named the Big Ten Conference Baseball Co-Freshman of the Week, announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. This is the second weekly honor this season for the Spartans, as sophomore outfielder Zaid Walker was named the Player of the Week on March 10 following the opening weekend of the season.

Michigan State made the decision an easy one for Flushing pitcher Nick Powers. Powers grew up a Michigan State fan, the campus in East Lansing is closer to his home than any other Division I school and the Spartans coaching staff told Powers they thought he could make an immediate impact for them on the mound. So when MSU offered Powers a scholarship, it didn’t take long for him to say yes.
