  • Michigan State offensive line boosted by pressure from true freshmen

    After practice during preseason camp, the Michigan State players ate lunch, then took a break. The offensive line would head to its meeting room to watch film or just hang out. Turns out they weren’t alone. The rest of the Spartans offense joined the linemen, creating a bond on that side of the ball. And this season, coaches will be looking for that offensive line to stick as the glue that holds together an offense that assistant coach Mark Staten said “has a chance to be pretty special.”

  • Three true freshmen on the Michigan State offensive line? It could happen

    For the first seven years of Mark Dantonio’s tenure at Michigan State, not a single true freshmen played on the team’s offensive line. Now, the floodgates could be opening. Michigan State could see three true freshman play up front this fall, offensive line coach Mark Staten said this week at Michigan State media day.

    Josiah Scott became one of the spring game stars. Hunter Rison and Jack Camper both gave fans a sneak peek at their skills as well. Those were Michigan State’s three early enrollees. But the Spartans could be counting on a few more true freshmen to help rebound from last year’s 3-9 debacle.

    Mustafa Khaleefah, Jordan Reid and Cody White shook hands, shared hugs and caught up on their lives like old friends.In a lot of way, the three Michigan State signees already are close. They’ve been part of the same group text with each other since they committed before last summer.

  • Recruiting analyst: Offensive linemen stars of Spartans’ 2017 class

    The Spartans signed four-star guard Kevin Jarvis (Maine South/Park Ridge, Ill.) as well as guard Jordan Reid (Cass Tech) and tackle Mustafa Khaleefah (Dearborn), who are both three-star players from Michigan. “I think, on the offensive front, you can win a lot of ballgames with guys like Kevin Jarvis and Jordan Reid paving the way in the trenches,” said Steve Wiltfong, a recruiting analyst for 247sports.com. “My favorite part about (MSU’s recruiting class) is the Kevin Jarvis, Jordan Reid (guard) combination.

  • Mustafa Khaleefah signs with Michigan State football years after escaping war in Iraq

    It has been a long journey for Mustafa Khaleefah. On Wednesday afternoon, Khaleefah took part in a ceremony to commemorate him signing his letter of intent to play football at Michigan State. It was a shining moment for the 6-foot-6, 282-pound offensive tackle. As a three-star recruit, he was the crown jewel of the Dearborn football team this last fall.

  • Trieu: Top Michigan State recruits driven by common goal

    Upon retiring from the NFL, Blaise Winter began speaking at clinics and helping schools with defensive line technique. One of the schools he worked with from approximately 2005-08 was Michigan State. In 2005, his son Donovan was only 6, but his father’s stories about working with the Spartans stuck with him. He decided at an early age that he wanted to be a Spartan.
