Michigan State men’s basketball guard Max Christie was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft on Thursday night. Christie was the 35th overall pick in the draft and the fifth selection in the second round. This is the second time in the last three years an MSU player was taken in the same slot, joining Xavier Tillman Sr., who was picked by the Memphis Grizzlies in 2020.

“I was looking forward to this game a lot just coming into the season because my mom played here and this is kind of like the college I grew up in,” Christie said. “So I’ve been here growing up all my life. I was pumped up for it, so I wanted to give my best effort and we ended up winning the game, which is what I wanted.”

2 Michigan State starters to miss High Point game because of COVID-19
Coach Tom Izzo confirmed Tuesday that senior Marcus Bingham Jr. and freshman Max Christie will miss the scheduled home game against High Point while freshman reserve Pierre Brooks is also out.
