  • Mike Garland, Mark Montgomery see roles shift

    After making some changes to its coaching staff over the offseason, Michigan State coach Tom Izzo announced Monday some additional shifting with his assistants. Mike Garland, a longtime assistant under Izzo, will transition to special assistant to the head coach, while Mark Montgomery will go from recruiting coordinator to one of the Spartans’ three full-time assistant coaches.

  • Mark Montgomery brings Spartan roots to new role

    Montgomery is one of three new MSU assistants this season, along with video coordinator Austin Thornton and assistant director of operations Matt McQuaid, who are all former Spartan players. They’ve come to elevate one of the most consistently successful basketball programs in the country, in part, by tapping into what they’ve already experienced.
