  • Former MSU point guard Keith Appling facing murder charges, arraigned on Thursday

    Former Michigan State basketball point guard Keith Appling will be arraigned via Zoom today in Detroit’s 36th District Court. Appling faces multiple charges, according to Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy: one count of first-degree murder, one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, and two counts of felony firearm. Appling is accused of fatally shooting his relative, Clyde Edmonds, multiple times on May 22 after an argument over a handgun. He fled the scene with his girlfriend, who will also be arraigned today with one count of accessory after the fact and one count of lying to a police officer.

  • Ex-MSU star Keith Appling a suspect in fatal shooting, police say

    Former Michigan State University basketball star Keith Appling is a suspect in connection to a fatal shooting Saturday evening on the city’s west side, police said. At about 7:10 p.m. in the 13200 block of Whitcomb, a 66-year-old man and the 29-year-old suspect got into a verbal altercation, which turned physical, police said in a statement. The suspect fired multiple gunshots at the victim, fatally wounding him, officials said. After the shooting, the suspect fled in a newer model tan Buick Regal.

  • Tom Izzo visits Keith Appling in jail

    Izzo used Saturday’s return to the Motor City as a chance to visit his former point guard in Wayne County Jail. “It was good to see him,” said Izzo, who made the visit at 7 a.m. before the Spartans played Oakland on Saturday afternoon. “I think he has a whole different perspective.”
