Michigan State wrestler Javier Gasca was named Big Ten Wrestler of the Week for his performance at the Michigan State Open last Sunday, Nov. 5. This marks Gasca’s first career Big Ten weekly honor, and he is the first Spartan wrestler to earn the accolade since Drew Hughes last season on Dec. 20, 2016.

Three Spartans Headed To NCAA Wresting Championships
Michigan State wrestling will be represented by three wrestlers at the NCAA Wrestling National Championships next weekend at Scottrade Center in St. Louis, March 16-18. Redshirt junior 141-pounder Javier Gasca will be representing the Spartans’ for the second-straight year. Redshirt sophomore 133-pounder Austin Eicher will also be making his second trip to the NCAAs, but first for MSU after transferring from Northern Illinois last summer. Freshman At 165 pounds Drew Hughes will be making the rare NCAA appearance as a freshman.

Javier Gasca Advances To B1G Championship Match
Michigan State junior 141-pounder Javier Gasca advanced to the finals with three wins Saturday in the opening day of the Big Ten Wrestling Championships at Indiana’s Assembly Hall. Gasca will be joined at the NCAA National Championships by freshman teammate Drew Hughes at 165 pounds and Austin Eicher.

Two Spartan Wrestlers Earn Top-8 Seeds For Big Ten Championships
Two Michigan State wrestlers earned top-eight pre-seeds for the 2017 Big Ten Wrestling Championships, which are Saturday and Sunday, March 4-5 in Bloomington, Indiana, hosted by the University of Indiana. Junior Javier Gasca is No. 7 at 141 pounds while freshman Drew Hughes is No. 8 at 165 pounds.

A pair of juniors, Javier Gasca and Austin Eicher, collected victories but Michigan State wrestling fell at No. 12 Illinois, 30-9, Friday night at Illinois’ Huff Hall.
