Jaren Mangham was wearing Michigan State gear on Wednesday, sitting at a table in the media room at Spartan Stadium talking about playing at a program he grew up watching, doing so for a coach he already knows well and with the added bonus of playing with his little brother. It’s fair to say, things have come full circle for the running back out of Detroit who transferred to Michigan State from South Florida in January and officially signed with the Spartans on Wednesday.

Another move has been made by Michigan State in the transfer portal, adding running back transfer Jaren Mangham, the brother of MSU safety Jaden Mangham. Mangham will be joining Michigan State after spending the first four years of his career at Colorado and USF. Mel Tucker coached Mangham during his lone season at Colorado.

Four 2019 recruits from Michigan among the 33 ranked in the 247Sports composite have committed to a school. Three have chosen Michigan State. All three — 4-star Belleville (Mich.) cornerback Julian Barnett, 4-star Oak Park (Mich.) quarterback Dwan Mathis and 4-star Walled Lake (Mich.) Western tackle Spencer Brown — rank among the top 10.

The Jaren Mangham sweepstakes is heating up. With offers rolling in for Detroit Cass Tech’s prized 2019 running back, Michigan State remains in the mix for another Technicians’ standout. Mangham, rated a four-star athlete and the nation’s 163rd overall prospect by the 247Sports Composite, took notice when teammate Kalon Gervin, a 2018 four-star defensive back, committed to the Spartans earlier this month.

Michigan State football is trying to create a pipeline at Detroit Cass Tech.Although Michigan has landed some of Cass Tech’s top prospects in recent years, most recently five-star receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones and four-star defensive back Jaylen Kelly-Powell in the 2017 cycle, the Spartans continue to pursue Technicians senior defensive back Kalon Gervin and junior running back Jaren Mangham.

Jaren Mangham has been traveling all over the country and picking up offers. Cincinnati, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi State and Missouri have all jumped in the race for the stocky Detroit Cass Tech running back. Florida, Florida State, Miami, North Carolina, Tennessee, UCLA and Wisconsin could get visits soon from the 4-star sophomore. Despite having ample time to get to know him well, neither Michigan nor Michigan State had offered — that is, prior to Sunday. Mangham made yet another trip to East Lansing, and Spartans coach Mark Dantonio pulled him aside after spring practice.
