  • Germie Bernard entering NCAA transfer portal

    The competition for Michigan State’s football’s third wide receiver spot appears to be thinning out a bit as Germie Bernard has entered the NCAA transfer portal. Bernard — a high school teammate of MSU backup QB Katin Houser for two seasons in Henderson, Nevada —appeared in 12 games for the Spartans last season, catching seven passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns. His most productive game came against Ohio State on Oct. 8, when Bernard had three catches for 28 yards against the Buckeyes.

    When Michigan State’s team bus arrives on the University of Washington’s campus on Saturday ahead of the two teams’ non-conference matchup, it will mark the second time in 2022 that Spartans wide receiver Germie Bernard has visited the school.

    “He’s a very good player and I believe that he can be a difference maker,” coach Mel Tucker said on Friday morning after speaking at the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association’s annual clinic at the Lansing Center. “He’s got a really good combination of size and speed and he’s strong with the ball. He’s a guy that I feel like is going to fit well with our mix of guys and he’s going to be able to help us big time.”

  • Michigan State lands commitment from Germie Bernard, 4-star receiver

    Michigan State signed one of its best classes in recent years last month, and on Sunday, the Spartans landed another commitment that will vault the 2022 class into the top 20 in the country. Four-star wide receiver Germie Bernard, who had signed with Washington but was released from his letter of intent, announced on social media he was committing to Michigan State while several reports state he’s set to enroll in the winter semester in East Lansing.
