I feel like we’re building something special.” That “so far” is a reference to two 2022 commitments — swingman Emoni Bates, Akins’ current teammate at Ypsi Prep, and forward Enoch Boakye — who might reclassify and join the trio that signed Wednesday

  • MSU commit, targets affected by updated 2022 basketball rankings

    247Sports updated its basketball recruiting rankings for the class of 2022 on Wednesday, and Michigan State commitment Emoni Bates remains the top overall player in the class. Bates maintained his 101 rating, keeping him at No. 1 among all junior prospects. MSU’s other class of 2022 commitment, Canadian center Enoch Boakye, dropped one spot to No. 20 overall. His rating of 98 was not adjusted.

    Boakye announced the massive news that he picked the green and white over Duke, Kentucky, Texas Tech, Arizona, Oklahoma State, and UCLA. The No. 3-ranked center for the class of 2022 now makes it two commits for what is already a storied class with Bates. However, just like Bates, rumors are swirling that a reclassification could be a possibility.

  • Enoch Boakye has ‘underdog’ mentality

    Playing in Canada, it can often be difficult for a prospect to gain as much attention as those who play in the United States. It’s been no different for Boakye, who is rated a five-star prospect by 247Sports and is rated the No. 18 player in the 2022 class. However, he isn’t rated by Rivals (he’s listed as a four-star prospect on that site) nor is he among the top 60 players at ESPN. It’s certainly provided him with motivation, his high school coach says.
