Senior Ebonee Echols (Newnan, Ga.) has been named Second Team All-Great Lakes Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), as announced on Thursday. The selection of Echols makes it four straight seasons that the Spartans have had at least one All-Region selection, with Echols being the sixth student-athlete honored in that time frame.

Michigan State softball on upswing for first time in 10 years
In 2007, the last time Michigan State softball posted a winning season, junior Bridgette Rainey was 11 years old. Sophomore Ebonee Echols and freshman Jordan Watson were both 9. The three Spartans, all of which played their high school ball in Georgia and played club for the Atlanta Vipers, weren’t too familiar with MSUÂ softball. All three, however, did know there wasn’t much winning going on when they committed. For them, the opportunity to build something was the draw.

Echols Triples Twice in 6-4 Victory Over Penn State
Michigan State took the rubber match of its three-game series with Penn State on Sunday, taking down the Nittany Lions by a 6-4 score. The Spartans have won six of their last seven games and improve to 21-12 overall and 5-4 in Big Ten play. Penn State falls to 15-21, 3-6 in Conference action.
