  • Michigan State record book: Nobody can hold on to Spartans’ blocks record

    Poor Matt Steigenga. The former Michigan State forward, who now serves as a color analyst on the team’s radio broadcasts, set the Spartans’ career record for blocked shots in 1992, with 97. The record stood firm for more than a decade and a half. But now, 12 years after his record fell, Steigenga isn’t even among the top 10 shot blockers in program history.

  • Drew Naymick still a pro, catching his breath

    Long before Drew Naymick grew to be a 6-foot-10, 250-pound basketball player, he used to waddle around as a youngster, carrying a plastic baseball and plastic bat and hitting off a tee. While the former Michigan State shot-blocks leader and North Muskegon native is known for basketball, his other passion was baseball.
