Denzel Valentine reportedly signs Exhibit 10 training camp deal with Boston Celtics – Celtics Wire

What a difference a year makes. Last season, Denzel Valentine began the campaign outside the rotation, buried by head coach Jim Boylen for defensive deficiencies. This season, after signing his qualifying offer, Valentine essentially has a no-trade clause and, at least for now, is ahead of Chandler Hutchison in Billy Donovan’s rotation.

The Chicago Bulls announced that forward Denzel Valentine has been diagnosed with ongoing ankle instability. The Lansing native will undergo a surgical reconstruction the week of Nov. 26 and will be out four-to-six months.

Chicago Bulls guard Denzel Valentine will miss the rest of the season after surgery this week on his left knee. The Bulls say Valentine had swelling in the knee and an MRI indicated a need for an arthroscopic debridement procedure, which is scheduled for Wednesday.

If there’s one thing former Michigan State star Denzel Valentine took away from his rookie season in the NBA, it’s that professional basketball is a business, first and foremost. “It’s ‘What can you do for me now?’ That’s what it’s grown to,” Valentine said following an appearance at the Moneyball Pro-Am in Dimondale on Tuesday night. “It is what it is. There’s so many good players out there, trades being made, deals being done, so you pretty much have to be consistent. A person familiar with the situation says Chicago Bulls guard Denzel Valentine had arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle. The person, confirming reports by several outlets, spoke Tuesday on the condition of anonymity because the team has not disclosed the operation. He is expected to play for the Bulls in the summer league in Las Vegas in July.

Denzel Valentine finished an up-and-down NBA rookie season when the Chicago Bulls were eliminated from the playoffs last week. The former Michigan State and Lansing Sexton star averaged 5.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 17.1 minutes in 57 games during the regular season. He played almost entirely off the ball, on the wing, and shot 35 percent on 3-point shots.

After missing all of training camp to a serious ankle injury, he moved from out of the rotation to in — then out again. This wasn’t the rookie season Denzel Valentine envisioned after the Bulls used a lottery pick to draft him. “Yeah, it definitely was confusing,” Valentine said. Some clarity emerged during his individual exit meeting. Valentine said management told him he will play a big role next season.
