    One day before the start of spring practice, Michigan State appears to have lost another player amid offseason attrition.Darien Tipps-Clemons, a true freshman linebacker, on Monday, tweeted a photo of a letter from the university’s compliance department granting other schools permission to contact him regarding a potential transfer. He also wrote, “Thank you MSU staff and University.”

    Darien Clemons? Sounds good. Darien Tipps-Clemons? No problem. Darien Tipps? He has never gone by that name, but sure. Tipps-Clemons (that’s what his Michigan State jersey will say, so we’ll go with that) knows what matters to him and doesn’t dwell on the rest. The Piqua High linebacker and MSU signee doesn’t care by which last name to refer to him. He won’t debate you on politics, and he’ll shrug about your religious beliefs.

  • Freshmen who could see the field for Michigan State football this fall

    Josiah Scott became one of the spring game stars. Hunter Rison and Jack Camper both gave fans a sneak peek at their skills as well. Those were Michigan State’s three early enrollees. But the Spartans could be counting on a few more true freshmen to help rebound from last year’s 3-9 debacle.

  • Trieu: Top Michigan State recruits driven by common goal

    Upon retiring from the NFL, Blaise Winter began speaking at clinics and helping schools with defensive line technique. One of the schools he worked with from approximately 2005-08 was Michigan State. In 2005, his son Donovan was only 6, but his father’s stories about working with the Spartans stuck with him. He decided at an early age that he wanted to be a Spartan.
