    Former center Brian Allen, linebacker Chris Frey, defensive end Demetrius Cooper, running back Gerald Holmes and kicker Brett Scanlon will attend football’s annual Pro Day Friday, an MSU athletics spokesperson confirmed Thursday afternoon.

  • Brett Scanlon Feature: A Part of the Family

    Unlike most of his teammates, senior kicker Brett Scanlon hasn’t always worn Green and White during his college football career. In fact, the senior kicker is pretty familiar with Western Michigan’s brown and gold. Scanlon transferred to Michigan State after his sophomore season as a Bronco. Undoubtedly, emotions run high for him as he faces his former team, but Scanlon immediately felt at home in East Lansing.

  • Couch: Pressure on MSU’s Scanlon, Hartbarger to limit Darius Phillips

    Scanlon was in the same freshman dorm as Phillips at WMU and was the Broncos’ kickoff specialists for two seasons, 2013 and ’14, before transferring to Michigan State as a preferred walk-on. He was replaced at WMU by former minor league baseball player and local product Derrick Mitchell, who, as a 30-year-old redshirt junior, will kickoff for the Broncos this Saturday.

  • 2017 Michigan State football preview: The special teams

    MSU will have a new kicker for the first time since its Rose Bowl run four years ago. Redshirt freshman Matt Coghlin is expected to replace departing senior Michael Geiger. It appears Coglin will get the first crack at the job, but Western Michigan transfer Brett Scanlon, a senior walk-on, and true freshman Cole Hahn will be standing by should Coghlin struggle. Scanlon or Hahn is likely to handle kickoffs from the get-go

  • No one has leg up in Michigan State’s kicker battle

    With so many games coming down to the wire, getting consistent kicking is key and the Spartans have quite the competition. Redshirt freshman Matt Coghlin might be the leader at this point, but fifth-year senior Brett Scanlon and true freshman Cole Hahn are also in the mix as well as freshman Jack McKenna, who also is punting. Special teams coordinator Mark Snyder said late last week things were too close to call.
