  • Bridges, MSU work to round out recruiting class

    Now that Miles Bridges has provided Michigan State its biggest “recruit” for this season’s class he’ll get back to work trying to convince a few more to join him. Bridges announced last week he was returning for his sophomore season, deciding to leave the NBA until at least next year as he chases his dream of winning a national championship. That decision could have a significant impact on a class that already includes two of the top big men in the country, though Bridges will continue to push.

  • Spartans to get final in-home visit with 5-star Brandon McCoy?

    MSU is set to welcome 6’9” Gavin Schilling back from injury and add 6’11” Jaren Jackson and 6’9” Xavier Tillman in the upcoming recruiting class. Heck, they may even get 6’9” Ben Carter back in the fold. While it might seem like the size problem is all but addressed, one (literally) very large fish could still be reeled in — 5-star center Brandon McCoy.

  • Michigan State basketball late signing period storylines: Brandon McCoy, Mark Smith, Miles Bridges

    Jaren Jackson, a senior five-star power forward from La Porte (Ind.) La Lumiere School, kick-started Michigan State’s class of 2017 when the 6-foot-10, 226-pound four-man committed to Michigan State in September. Then Xavier Tillman, a senior four-star forward from Grand Rapids (Mich.) Christian, committed a few weeks later. Both Jackson and Tillman inked their letters of intent to Michigan State in early November.

  • Undecided All-America Brandon McCoy comfortable with Michigan State

    It’s a homecoming of sorts for Brandon McCoy during this week’s McDonald’s All-American Game.The 6-foot-11, 244-pound center/power forward was raised in the Chicago neighborhood of K-Town on the city’s West Side, some three miles from the United Center, which will host Wednesday’s prestigious all-star game for high school seniors (7 p.m., ESPN).

  • Back home in Chicago, top recruit Brandon McCoy ponders a move to Michigan State

    Brandon McCoy is quite the celebrity this week. The 6-foot-11 specimen has been claimed by local media as Chicago’s representative in Wednesday night’s McDonald’s All-American game at United Center. McCoy grew up here, proudly telling reporters on Tuesday that he comes from the West Side; K-Town, to be exact, a subsection of North Lawndale, a part of town that’s decayed over much of the last 40 years. In his memoirs, “True Vines,” native author John W. Fountain writes that K-Town “a city within a city” where there “seems to be a hint of death wherever I go.”

  • McDonald’s All-American: MSU commit Jackson working on Brandon McCoy

    Jaren Jackson Jr. arrived at the Marriot Magnificent Mile Sunday morning, eager for the McDonald’s All-American experience. His excitement grew when the power forward and top Michigan State recruit checked in at the hotel’s front desk. There he was told that his roommate for the week would be San Diego Cathedral Catholic center Brandon McCoy, who is strongly considering joining Jackson in East Lansing. “Wow, this is pretty funny,” Jackson recalls thinking. “Maybe they did this on accident or they did this on purpose, but either way I’m going to take advantage of it.”
