Michigan State keeps focus on improving, not recent Big Ten upsets

Miles Bridges is expected to return to a Michigan State team that’s sitting atop the Big Ten and getting better daily. A Rutgers program that still hasn’t found its footing in its new conference seems like a perfect opponent for Bridges to reintroduce himself with his teammates.

Above the Noise: Alvin Ellis III pushes aside talk, now playing his best

Tom Izzo says he’s on a campaign to get rid of the noise. The noise is all the talk from outside of a team’s inner circle — social media, regular media, friends and any other distracting influence. All coaches attempt this to one degree or another, but Izzo says he’s committed to cutting it out from his Michigan State basketball team. Alvin Ellis III was, in Izzo’s opinion, once a victim of the noise. Not anymore, he says, which is why the senior guard is playing his best at the most opportune time.

Quick start is no lock for 2-0 MSU in chaotic Big Ten

Just one week into the Big Ten season, three teams sit atop the standings without a loss. That’s what most expected. What wasn’t expected, however, were the teams sitting in that position. Wisconsin has played once and it was a win, but that’s where the status quo ends. Instead of Indiana and Purdue joining the Badgers as the expected front-runners, it’s Nebraska and Michigan State that are both 2-0 in conference play.

Freshman Joshua Langford’s improvements impressing Tom Izzo

The obvious numbers might not say it, but the peripherals surrounding Joshua Langford point to a freshman transitioning into the next phase of his college career. Michigan State’s wing guard scored just one bucket in Friday’s 61-52 win over Northwestern, but Langford also grabbed four rebounds, had two assists and collected two steals in a turnover-free 27 minutes.
