    Nick Ward Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

    Michigan State freshman forward Nick Ward has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive week and third time this season, as announced by the conference office on Monday. Ward averaged 16.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks last week, shooting .619 from the field and leading the Spartans to a 2-0 start in Big Ten play.

    Victoria Gaines Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

    Michigan State redshirt freshman forward Victoria Gaines has been named Big Ten Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday. Gaines earned her first career double-double in the Spartans’ win against Illinois on Jan. 1.

    Miles Bridges to return from injury Wednesday against Rutgers

    Michigan State will get a big boost Wednesday against Rutgers when freshman forward Miles Bridges returns from the ankle injury that has kept him out for the last seven games. Spartans coach Tom Izzo said Monday that Bridges will play as long as there are no setbacks before then but will not start. Bridges said he is about “97 percent” healthy and intends to get some minutes against Rutgers.
