There were plenty of chants of “Go Green” as Izzo played in the three-hole event, which comes roughly three months after Izzo led the Spartans to the Final Four after winning the Big Ten regular-season and tournament championships. They did so without guard Joshua Langford and forward Kyle Ahrens. Izzo said both are healing quickly.

“Josh, in a week-and-a-half will start working out full, meaning shooting jump shots and all that,” Izzo said. “Everything has gone really smooth for him.

“Kyle is going full-go. He’s been full-go for about a week, so that’s encouraging.”

On Friday, June 21, 2019, the Michigan State University Board of Trustees authorized the construction of the Munn Ice Arena Expansion project.  In support, Michigan State University men’s basketball head coach Tom Izzo and wife, Lupe, have made a $1.1 million gift towards the project, while additionally contributing to the Spartan Marching Band and Student-Athlete Support Services (SASS).  This is the second gift of $1 million or more by the Izzo family since 2011.

Nick Ward’s journey from Michigan State to the NBA will continue this summer in Las Vegas. The Atlanta Hawks agreed to a deal with the 6-foot-9 forward to play for their NBA Summer League team, Ward told the Free Press on Friday afternoon. He hopes that will lead to a camp invitation and a shot to make the NBA roster or get a two-way deal in the G-League.

Michigan State’s basketball team will host Albion in an exhibition game at the Breslin Center on Oct. 29, it was announced Thursday. The game will be a matchup of Michigan State guard Cassius Winston against his younger brothers, guards Zachary Winston and Khy Winston, who play for the Britons.

Michigan State’s planned trip to Spain in August can wait. Nick Ward will get a chance to showcase himself for the NBA franchise closest to where he played college basketball. The former Michigan State center is set to participate in a pre-draft workout Friday with the Detroit Pistons, the franchise said. Ward reportedly took part in a workout with the Orlando Magic on May 31.

Marcus Bingham came to Michigan State last summer as its highest-rated recruit and with an intriguing size and skill set. He stood 6-foot-11 had longer arms than Jaren Jackson Jr. He also had legitimate shooting ability, dating back to his days as a guard before a high school growth spurt. But thoughts of him breaking into the playing rotation and contributing as a freshman in 2018-19were quickly squashed.

Izzo taking Iron Mountain players through the Breslin violated NCAA rules about coaches having contact with potential recruits. While high school players are allowed to tour facilities and meet with college coaches most days of the year, they aren’t allowed to if they’re at that facility to play a game. The fact that Iron Mountain was competing in the Breslin Center the following day made Izzo’s tour against the rules.

You can already sense the anticipation for this coming Michigan State basketball season. Having Duke now on the home schedule adds some oomph five months out. This season didn’t need Duke, though. The Spartans, as it stands in June, are a consensus preseason No. 1, returning several pillars from a beloved Final Four team, with substantial intrigue surrounding new pieces and the possibilities for their younger players. Hope is sky high. People are pumped.
