The Michigan State University field hockey team will open play for the 2017 season on Saturday with an exhibition match. The Spartans will face Michigan at Ocker Field in Ann Arbor. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m. ET. “I’m really looking forward to having the opportunity to play someone other than ourselves and to test where we are in our development”, said head coach Helen Knull. “It will be a great challenge before we head to California to open on the 25th.”

Field Hockey Adds One to Incoming Class
The Michigan State field hockey program has announced that it has added one incoming freshman to its recruiting class for the 2017 season. Goal keeper Mairi Fletcher (Glasgow, Scotland) is the latest addition and joins Cara Bonshak (Allentown, Pa.), Meredith Ross (Paoli, Pa.), Lia Sinisi (Hackensack, NJ), and Sawyer Post (Oceanside, Calif.), as the five have all signed National Letters of Intent to enroll at Michigan State next fall and join the Spartans.

The Michigan State field hockey program held its annual end-of-the-year banquet on Sunday, March 26 at Spartan Stadium to celebrate the 2016 season. Members of the team were recognized for their accomplishments both on the field and in the classroom.

Field Hockey Recognized for Academic Success
The Zag Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I National Academic Squad was announced on Wednesday, freaturing 15 student-athletes from the Spartan Squad. Michigan State was also honored with the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award, for achieving a team program GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Field Hockey Announces Spring Schedule
The Michigan State field hockey team has announced its spring schedule that includes nine exhibition games in March and April. The Spartans will also host their annual Alumni Game on April 22 at Ralph Young Field. MSU begins the spring on Saturday, March 25 when it hosts Central Michigan for a 1 p.m. match at Ralph Young Field.

Michigan State University To Upgrade Ralph Young Field
Michigan State University and the Spartan field hockey program are making significant upgrades to Ralph Young Field, the home of MSU field hockey, this spring with a brand new artificial turf, as well as installing an underlying sprinkler system, to improve the quality of the playing surface. Construction is scheduled to begin May 15 and be completed July 27 with the overall cost of the project projected at $1.2 million.
