Sure, Chewins was offered a scholarship that would go into effect after the 2015 season, which he redshirted as a first-year offensive tackle from Clarkston, Mich. But that offer, in the most literal sense, wasn’t much more than a handshake deal. No paperwork guaranteed he ever would go on scholarship.
