Michigan State football hasn’t been this big of an underdog entering a game in nearly three years. The Spartans enter Saturday night’s primetime contest against No. 3 Notre Dame as 29.5-point underdogs — the largest spread they have faced since taking on No. 6 Ohio State in 2023. Yet, the new staff, headlined by first-year head coach Pat Fitzgerald, isn’t looking to keep it close or secure a moral victory; his squad is looking to hoist the Megaphone Trophy for the first time since 2016.
