Michigan State was the better team on offense and defense at Iowa this season. Superior special teams were the reason the Hawkeyes rallied for a 20-17 win to avoid a massive upset last month. The man in charge of that unit is now leaving for the Spartans. Iowa special teams coordinator LeVar Woods is joining Michigan State coach Pat Fitzgerald’s staff, Hawkeyes coach Kirk Ferentz announced Thursday. Woods, who will coach through Iowa’s Dec. 31 ReliaQuest Bowl against Vanderbilt, said he will be special teams coordinator and assistant head coach for the Spartans.
