Joe Rossi was in a comfortable spot and making seven figures as Minnesota’s defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. Then new Michigan State coach Jonathan Smith presented him with an offer for the same job in East Lansing and after spending the last seven seasons with the Golden Gophers, Rossi left to take over the Spartans’ defense.
