Michigan State graduate student Heath Baldwin was named the U.S. Track and Field & Cross Country Coaches Association Men’s Indoors Great Lakes Region Field Athlete of the Year Thursday. The prestigious honor comes after the Kalamazoo, Mich. native finished runner-up in the heptathlon at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Boston, Mass. on March 9. Not only was Baldwin’s score of 6238 a school record, but it is also the Big Ten record, sixth-best of all time and makes him the current U.S. No. 1 in the event.
