A growing sense of optimism surrounds the Michigan State hockey program after an active offseason as head coach Adam Nightingale enters his second season as bench boss. In his first year with the team, the Spartans finished with an 18-18-2 record, highlighted by an 11-5-1 record at Munn Ice Arena. Michigan State missed an NCAA Tournament bid by the smallest of margins.
