Michigan State closed the nonconference portion of its schedule the same way it did last year – with a lopsided loss to Washington. The Spartans (2-1) were hammered last week and will wrap up a four-game homestand to start the season by hosting Maryland (3-0) on Saturday (3:30 p.m., NBC) to open Big Ten play. The Terrapins, who finished 8-5 last year, won each of their first three games by double digits this fall.
