In April 2022, after his debut season at Michigan State the previous fall, tight end Maliq Carr revealed his bold aspirations: Ideally, he thought, he’d spend one more season in East Lansing and head off to the NFL. At the time Carr was attempting to speak his preferred path into existence, he had 15 games and nine catches to his name across two seasons of college football. Fourteen months later, Carr had this to say about his personal outlook for the 2023 season: “I’m done with expectations as far as that goes. I just want to have fun and win games.”
