Slade was selected by the Pittsburgh Maulers with the second pick of the ninth round (No. 65 overall) in the USFL draft on Feb. 21. He was one of two former Spartans drafted that day, following offensive tackle Jarrett Horst who went No. 1 overall to the Michigan Panthers.
