Foster Loyer was named a captain at Michigan State as a backup before the 2020-21 season, a testament to the respect he had in the Spartans locker room despite his limited role to that point. When he left and went to Davidson over the offseason last year, he did one better. Loyer was named a captain for his new team after its summer practice session and before he had ever played a game wearing its uniform. In short order, he earned a similar level of respect from his new teammates.
