A year after finishing second in a quarterback competition, Payton Thorne landed the top spot. The Michigan State redshirt sophomore won the starting job and never gave it up. Thorne had a strong first season as the full-time starter and helped lead the Spartans to an 11-2 finish under second-year coach Mel Tucker, marking the biggest single-season turnaround in program history.
