It definitely didn’t take long for Simmons to carve out a role his first season in East Lansing. He posted a team-high 219 rushing yards on 56 carries to go with five catches for 34 yards in five games with one start. Although it was a pandemic-shortened season, Simmons became the first true freshman to lead the Spartans in rushing since LJ Scott in 2015. And no, he didn’t expect to play as much as he did.
