The Michigan State hockey team dropped the opening game of a weekend series at No. 4 Minnesota, 4-2, on Friday night at 3M Arena at Mariucci. Minnesota took a 3-0 lead past the midway point of the second period, but the Spartans pushed back and twice got it to a two-goal game. Tommy Apap (shorthanded) and Josh Nodler scored for MSU.
