Michigan State entered last season with an experienced option in junior Connor Heyward, who led the team in rushing in 2018 when Scott missed most of the year due to injury. He planned on using last season to cement his role as the starter but that didn’t happen. Heyward lost his starting spot after just one game and redshirt freshman Elijah Collins took over as the featured back. Collins returns as one of the team’s top talents and should factor heavily into a new offense under new head coach Mel Tucker and his staff.
