With 17 starters returning on offense and defense, Michigan State expected to make a run at winning the Big Ten this season. That didn’t happen as the Spartans lost five straight games to fall to 4-6 before closing the regular season with back-to-back victories against Rutgers and Maryland. A victory against Wake Forest would give them a three-game winning streak, which they last accomplished by beating Washington State in the Holiday Bowl to close the 2017 season.
