The Michigan State quarterback made his college debut as a redshirt freshman, filled in for an injured Brian Lewerke and was 2-1 as a starter while playing in eight games. It was a potential look at the program’s future at the position but remains Lombardi’s biggest test to date. He has played sparingly this season while still holding down the backup spot for the Spartans (6-6, 4-5 Big Ten), who are heading into Friday’s Pinstripe Bowl against Wake Forest (8-4, 4-4 ACC) at Yankee Stadium in New York.
