They were not ready. Not for this. Not for Duke. Not for a late-night tip. Not for Draymond Green’s jersey-retirement ceremony. Not for the sparkling crowd stuffed with former Spartans greats and current NBA stars. That’s fine. It’s December. This is Michigan State. This is a Tom Izzo team. This is a familiar script. At least Izzo hopes it is. Because his team is struggling. How much of it is the toll taken by the death of Cassius Winston’s brother, and how much of it is youth trying to figure it out, is hard to say.
