Expectations are a funny, tricky thing. Michigan State returned almost entirely intact a year ago, coming off a 10-3 season with what seemed to be realistic championship dreams. Anticipated progression on offense coupled with a dominant defense made it appear logical. Yet one injury begat the next, players dropping one after another, and the roster becoming a mere shell. Offensive production waned until it all but vanished in the final four games.
