Connor Heyward prepared like a starter last season but, realistically, knew that wasn’t his role. He was a true freshman running back with a trio of upperclassmen ahead of him on Michigan State’s depth chart. One year later, Heyward is getting the opportunities he envisioned as a freshman and cashing in on them. He rushed for a career-high 157 yards on 15 carries with two touchdowns in last week’s 24-3 win at Maryland.
