For Nick Ward and Xavier Tillman, instead of adding weight to a thin frame, the big men had to lose pounds. Ward, who went through the NBA draft process before returning for his junior year, joined MSU as a 270-pound freshman. He couldn’t stay on the court for prolonged periods his freshman year because of his conditioning.
