It looked like a curiosity at first, an attempt to trick a rival. Justin Layne’s return to receiver, however, might be a necessity for Michigan State football. The junior cornerback had two passes thrown his way. The first just out of his reach. The second long and out of bounds. With the season-ending injury to Felton Davis III, there could be a lot more chances – and need – for Layne to become the Spartans’ next two-way player.
