Michigan State has the No. 1 rushing defense in the country through Week 3, at 34 yards per game given up. It’s given up only one play of 30 yards or more on the season, the fewest of any in the Big Ten. But the Spartans still find themselves in the bottom half of the conference in both total defense and scoring defense. The reason? The frustrating offensive strategy the Spartans’ first two opponents have taken.
