Like most young players, Michigan State men’s basketball player Ben Carter grew up dreaming of playing the sport professionally. When MSU’s season ended in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on March 18, those dreams began to become a reality, happening a bit quicker than even he thought possible. Carter signed a contract over the weekend with Hapoel Jerusalem, a professional team in Israel that plays in the EuroCup, the Israeli Premier League, and the Israeli State Cup.
Michigan State hosts Indiana in a three-game Big Ten series this weekend. The teams will play a Friday doubleheader, and then conclude the series Saturday at 1 pm.
The Spartans have now lost six games in a row, including their most recent home loss, to Western Michigan. Once again, Michigan State struggled to score any runs in this contest, losing 6-1 at Kobs Field.

Zeeland East junior Adam Berghorst is a rare recruit for Michigan State in that, the Spartans have offered him in two sports: baseball, where he is a sought-after pitcher, and football, where his size and athleticism as a defensive end have caught the eyes of many Midwestern programs.

Nick Ward will submit his name for the 2018 NBA Draft, but will not hire an agent. Ward will put his name into the NBA Draft, making him eligible to be selected in the June 21 draft. He will be able to start attending workouts with teams April 24 and is eligible to compete in the NBA Draft Combine, if selected, from May 16-20 in Chicago. He then has 10 days (May 30 deadline) to weigh his options and keep his name in or withdraw and return to Michigan State.
he Zag Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I National Academic Squad was announced on Wednesday, featuring 13 student-athletes from the Michigan State field hockey team.
For three newly-hired football defensive assistants, they’ve returned home to East Lansing. “It’s fantastic to be home, because this is my home,” defensive ends coach Chuck Bullough said after practice Tuesday. Bullough, along with secondary coach Paul Haynes and assistant secondary/special teams/freshman coach Don Treadwell, were hired by head coach Mark Dantonio this offseason to fill three vacant defensive assistant coach sports after the departures of Harlon Barnett and Mark Snyder.

Chris Frey arrived at Michigan State as soon as he could. As an early enrollee in the Spartans’ 2014 recruiting class, the three-star linebacker from Ohio went through winter conditioning at the Duffy Daugherty Building to lay the groundwork for a college career. A little more than four years later and on the same turf, Frey wore a white T-shirt with a green Spartan logo on it and the words “Pro Day 2018.”
Xavier Henderson and Trent Gillison were teammates at Pickerington Central High School in Ohio. They were both four-star prospects and both signed with Michigan State’s 2018 class on Dec. 20. Gillison, a tight end, is finishing the school year at Pickerington Central, in part to play his senior season of baseball. Henderson, a safety, chose to be an early enrollee and arrived at Michigan State in January to begin classes and working out with the team.
There are seven freshmen who enrolled early at Michigan State to get a jumpstart on their college football careers. Two of them, Kalon Gervin and Xavier Henderson, are making an immediate impact. And they are getting a lot of love from the teammates they will be competing with for playing time this fall.

The Michigan State football team held its second scrimmage of spring practice on Wednesday night under the lights at Spartan Stadium with temperatures in the mid-40s.The scrimmage, which utilized a modified scoring system and lasted two hours, was 123 plays long (including special teams) and won by the defense, 29-15. The scrimmage was originally scheduled for Thursday, but was moved up due to rain in the forecast.

The first home game for the Spartans at Secchia Stadium was a success, as MSU earned a 6-1 victory over visiting Western Michigan on Wednesday. The Spartans improve to 13-15 overall, while Western Michigan falls to 14-14.
Brian Allen is Michigan State’s top NFL draft prospect. Whether the center gets picked or not will play out over three days and seven rounds in next month’s draft. For now, it’s all speculation and ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. is the guru of draft conjecture. During a conference call Wednesday afternoon, Kiper said he wouldn’t be shocked if Allen went undrafted but added “I could see him getting drafted fifth, sixth, seventh round.”
He arrived in East Lansing like a thunderbolt. Propelled by all those double-take YouTube highlights and the glow of all that recruiting hype. He was the most decorated signee of Tom Izzo’s tenure when he got to Michigan State in the summer of 2016. Yet Miles Bridges never carried himself like that when he stepped on the court. That reluctance, along with his innate humility, kept him from fully unlocking his talent. And he tantalized more than he produced.

The Michigan State women’s tennis team hits the road this weekend for two Big Ten matchups, in its last away matches of the season. The team will kick off their final road trip with a matchup with the Penn State Nittany Lions on Friday, March 30, with the match set to begin at 4:30 p.m. MSU will have their final road match on Sunday, April 1, at No. 29 Ohio State, with the match is set to begin at 12 p.m.
For the second time this season, Michigan State sophomore Allyson Geer has been named the Big Ten Golfer of the Week, it was announced by the conference on Wednesday, March 28.
