The Spartans open spring practice on Tuesday looking to follow up on last year’s 10-3 finish, which set a program record for the biggest single-season improvement at seven victories. Quarterback Brian Lewerke is back, as are his top targets, leading rusher LJ Scott and most of the offensive line. Michigan State will also return the bulk of its defense, which helped spearhead last year’s turnaround, for coach Mark Dantonio’s 12th season leading the program.
