Michigan State went through three other punt returners before settling on Cody White. Two others failed to cement the Spartans’ kickoff return job until Connor Heyward seized it at midseason. While MSU’s kicking game should be solid going into next fall, with kicker Matt Coghlin and punter Jake Hartbarger coming off solid seasons, there still remains an effort to discover more than just ball security in the return game.
