The announcement made to the small group was the handler would keep the animal’s “mouth busy” if the visitors wished to pet its back. The subject was a binturong – also known as a bearcat – and the guests were four Michigan State football players. The 40-pound “animal ambassador” at the San Diego Zoo – following the handler’s dropped pieces of fruit – snaked his way past the legs of senior center Brian Allen, junior linebacker Byron Bullough, senior linebacker Chris Frey and junior receiver Felton Davis on Monday afternoon.
