Tom Izzo looked down his bench Sunday and saw Nick Ward explaining himself as Michigan State assistant Dwayne Stephens chewed him out. “And Nick said, ‘I don’t want to foul,’” Izzo recalled Tuesday. “And DJ says, ‘We don’t care if you foul this year, that doesn’t matter. We don’t have handcuffs on you like last year. Go do your thing, be who you are.’” That’s a blessing for Izzo, who demands physical play in the paint, and his second-ranked Spartans.
