During Dantonio’s 10 previous seasons at Michigan State, his teams went 6-4 following the bye. The Spartans played two of those seasons without a bye (2007, 2009) but had two weeks off in two others (2013, 2014). MSU’s results in post-bye week games have obviously been affected in part by the strength of the opponent. In 2008, Michigan State played a very good Penn State team after the bye and not surprisingly struggled. On the flip side, MSU’s first bye of the 2014 season was followed by a game against an Eastern Michigan team that won two games and didn’t stand a chance.
