The tone in and around the local sports scene took a somber tone late Monday night when the world learned that Jud Heathcote died at age 90. Heathcote was an icon of MSU basketball, hiring Tom Izzo as an assistant and then naming him his replacement. But during his two-decade run at the helm in East Lansing, he won the 1979 NCAA title and won 339 games and three Big Ten titles.
