Length, speed, toughness, ball skills. Those four traits fired off rapidly by Michigan State defensive backs coach Harlon Barnett, are what he likes in sophomore Justin Layne. Coincidentally, those are skills that also make for a good pass catcher. Uncoincidentally, Layne played both cornerback and receiver as a true freshman last season, but Barnett has no intention of sharing him this fall.
